Healthy Baked Apples

Baked apples are still a healthy snack that can help you maintain your overall health.

The Roxbury russet is an apple with its skin a brown color. Relatively dry and has a powdery texture. This variety of apples is a little sweet and sour, thus making it excellent for cooking. Roxbury apple has got an excellent mellow flavor once cooked. Many apples wouldn’t keep very long, but Roxbury russet can. You can dry them over the fire, store them and use them late in the winter as it keeps pretty well in a barrel.

“Maça Renata” apples as it’s called in Portugal, these apples are commonly used in cooking desserts. It has different names in different places. 

Apple season has arrived, and I’ve been daydreaming about this baked apple recipe for quite some time. When I opened the oven and saw these delicate, cinnamon-coated, perfectly caramelized apples, my kitchen dreams came true! Allow me to demonstrate.

These baked apples are delicious on their own, but with a scoop of Vanilla Bean Coconut Ice Cream or Coconut Whipped Cream, they’re even better.

I am sure that you all will love this recipe as it is tender, naturally sweetened, caramelized, comforting, super satisfying, and above all, delicious.

On a cold winter evening, or any evening, these baked apples are absolutely delicious. Plus, while they're cooking, the house smells amazing.

Ingredients

  • 6 Renata apples
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 6-7 walnuts
  • 1/2 tsp coarse salt
  • 1/2 tsp ginger powder

Instructions

Remove the stall then with a knife make two small cross 2cm incision on the spot of the stalk.

Place the apples on a glass tray in the oven at 200°c

Sprinkle some salt on the cuts; this will allow the salt to sip through the apple core as it cooks.

Sprinkle some cinnamon powder over the cross-cut as well and baked it in the oven for thirty to forty minutes or so.

Once you smell the fragrance of cooked apples, it's a sign that it's almost ready.

Look through the glass of the oven, to check the juice is flowing out of the apples.

Once the skin has broken and juice oozing out, and you can see inside the apple flesh, you can remove the apples from the oven.

Place each apple on a dessert plate and garnish with roasted oats or fruits and coconut cream or maple syrup or anything you fancy as a topping. Enjoy!

Notes

There is an effortless dessert for groups of friends and a healthy snack for kids. It has a spectacular sweet, sour, and zingy taste of ginger with touch cinnamon.
