FavoriteLoadingAdd to Favorites

I bought a waffle maker to experiment with new desserts.  As on the previous day I had soaked dal to make batter to prepare dosa a typical South Indian pancake.  Since i has dosa batter ready i just had too test the batter on the waffle maker and it turned out marvellously delightful. Crispy and crunchy when fresh out of the waffle maker hot.

This Urad dal waffle dessert is fantastic, and you can learn more about it here. Wash the dal throughly and soak dal overnight you will notice the dal will have expanded to double its size and puree it until it’s a smooth paste. Then pour it into a waffle maker, and close the lid for about five to six minutes, you have square and round waffles incredibly unique and delicious with rice syrup or any sort of jam.

Urad Dal’s highly nutritional quality is the closest legume compared to meat. Ancient texts forbade the priestly class from eating meat or fish. When cooked or toasted, urad emits a meaty scent (similar to grilled salmon as it has a high content of omegas oils. The texture of a batter made entirely of soaked urad dal is similar to whipped egg whites, and because it has a high quantity of proteins, it behaves similarly to eggs when mixed into the batter.

In India, dosa made from urad dal is standard with sambar as a snack or breakfast. We prepare this frequently at home, and whenever there is a big occasion in our house, this is the dish that takes center stage for breakfast, considered an essential part of most South Indian breakfasts.
