Watermelon juice with skin is composed of 97% liquid and 3% fiber. To get the most out of watermelon, use the entire fruit including the tough green skin. Although eating the skin directly can be challenging, juicing it allows the body to efficiently absorb all its nutrients. This refreshing drink can freshen you up, aid in weight loss, and help revitalize your system. In Asia, it’s common to cook watermelon skin, even green papayas, green jackfruits (including their seeds) as a vegetable. I have prepared the skin as a vegetable in one of the boom festivals every one loved it.
During my six-month juice fast, I drank only watermelon juice—averaging 8 to 10 liters per day. In the first month, I occasionally ate savory pancakes with pesto three to four times to curb cravings, but for the remainder of the fast, it was only watermelon juice. The myriad benefits and interesting facts about watermelon that I discovered were truly astonishing.
Watermelon belongs to the Cucurbitaceae family along with cucumber, cantaloupe, and honeydew. Its high levels of antioxidants make it effective in fighting free radicals, potentially reducing symptoms of asthma, lowering blood pressure, and boosting both brain and digestive function.
This juice has even helped several friends and clients manage fatty liver issues. In April 2021, one of my dentist´s friend a lawyer reversed his fatty liver condition in just 30 days, as confirmed by his medical doctor through an ultrasound.
The journey began at the end of April 2010 when I wasn’t in the mood for solid food and decided to juice a watermelon as the season started. What began as a one-day experiment turned into a multi-day fast. My doctor friend on hearing of my fast, encouraged me and advised caution, regarding lack of salt to keep my electrolytes balanced. It was my routine to drink warm water with lemon juice and salt for two days on third day warm water with lemon juice and honey every morning, that was a habit since 16 years of age. Despite exercising and meditating rigorously, only lost 3 to 3.5 kilograms over six months, which was quite surprising.
My sleep was deep and restful, while my meditation felt light and elevated. My regular meditation practice lasted 1.5 to 2 hours twice a day, with additional 1hr – 40-minute sessions at noon and midnight before bed. During my fast, I was able to extend my meditation to 2–3 hours twice a day.
My stamina and strength were exceptional, working out two hours daily at the gym, staying hydrated with watermelon juice. Alongside that, I jogged 3–5 km, four to five times a week, all while functioning on just 3–4 hours of sleep per night.
During those fasting days, I would buy one whole watermelon to supply a day’s worth of juice. Curious about the liquid content, I measured a 10 kg watermelon and found it to be approximately 97% juice and 3% pulp. After testing several times, the results were consistently impressive. I have been hooked on watermelon ever since and even earned the title of a “watermelon junkie.” Many friends have overcome various health issues by embarking on a 30-day challenge with watermelon and green vegetable fruit juice, losing between 13 to 15 kilograms in the process. Enjoy this refreshing 100% watermelon juice! Looking back, I can only describe it as a marvelous experience.
In Europe, watermelons remain available for an extended period beyond their peak season, as imports from Morocco continue until the end of September. As the season came to a close, I gradually transitioned back to solid food, bringing my fast to an end.
