Smoky Basil Coriander Pesto is a very easy fun pesto to make. When short of a sauce or pesto, my way is to whip up a few healthy elements in a blender, adjust the salt and pepper to bring out the yummy factor.
Basil is a green leafy herb that is aromatic and flavorful, with its origins in Africa and Asia. It has various uses, such as being used as medicine, to flavor food, or to make teas. It is a highly potent herb with health benefits such as offering relief for bug bites and nausea. Basil is also a prevalent element in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine for healing and preventive benefits and also helping the mind and body adapt to stressors from the environment without spiking an inflammatory reaction.
Coriander is another aromatic herb that is used to garnish a wide range of dishes. It is related to celery, carrots, and parsley. Coriander has been used for years to help lower blood sugar levels, improve heart health, protect the brain, improve gut health, and fight infections. Coriander is also very rich in antioxidants.
This pesto is an out-of-the-box recipe with non of the traditional pesto ingredients, that is, no olive oil, no nuts, no cheese, just different with some amazing natural substitute ingredients. Throw in a bit of this and that you have a smoky pesto.
A little bit of:
- Cumin seeds
- Coconut butter
- turmeric powder
- of salt and pepper to taste
- Avocado and Smoked Paprika
Blend them all and what you get is smoky basil pesto. Super easy. Enjoy!

- 2 cups basil leaves
- 1/2 ripe avocado
- 2 cups coriander leaves
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- Some salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tsp of turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp coconut butter
- 1 tsp smoky Paprika and a little extra
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until very smooth. Enjoy!
