In 2011, during my time in Brasilia, Brazil, a friend and colleague who owns a vegetarian sattvic food restaurant called Terraviva invited me to create and improve the recipes on his menu. Creating new recipes is always a delightful challenge for any chef because it involves sourcing fresh ingredients and unique flavors. This journey allowed me to tour the region’s enormous fresh markets to select an array of fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, herbs, and other ingredients to make the tranquilizer juice.
A few months earlier, my friend asked for help with weight loss, so I set him on my weight loss detox program. He went from 105 to 90 kilos in 30 days. His new breakfast mix of fresh fruits and vegetable juices included passion fruit juice with oranges, enjoyed just before driving to the market. On that drive, I even caught myself dozing off for a few minutes, which was unusual.
Another friend, noticing me nodding off, suggested that the passion fruit juice might be responsible and mentioned experiencing the same effect. Ingredients
- 4 leaves of Curly Kale
- 1 Pineapple
- 1 Cucumber
- 2 Celery sticks
- 1 whole Lemon
- 1 thumb-size fresh Ginger
- 1 thumb-size fresh Turmeric
- 2 red baby radish
- 2 passion fruit
- 4 Romain salad leaves
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil (1 for each cup)
Instructions
Wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly under running water, gently caressing them to revitalize their natural freshness.
Cut all fruits and vegetables into small chunks, then add them to a blender, juicer, or masticator to extract the juice.
Transfer the juice to a jar or decanter, add the coconut oil, and mix well. Alternatively, you may add sesame, flaxseed, or olive oil to enhance nutrient absorption.

To remove surface residues, soak them in water with 1 tablespoon of salt, 1/2 tablespoon of baking powder, and 2 capfuls of apple cider vinegar for 20-30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
