Watermelon is a ‘superduper’ fatty liver dissolver and cleanser. It helps the liver to process ammonia and get rid of excess fatty waste. Many of my friends and students have reversed severe fatty liver problems by following this watermelon juice method for 30 days.

This feeling was so good that I continued the fast another day and then another. I decided to test how long my body could sustain itself on this watermelon juice and continued the fast for around 6 months. The only reason I had to end the 6 months juice was that the watermelon season was over.
More recently, my friend, a lawyer, tried out this ‘ 30-day watermelon juice fast ‘ after diagnosing fatty liver and was given a prescription to take two drugs for the next two years. The agony of taking medications for two years compared to a healthier alternative helped him decide on the juice fast route. Watermelon rind has a mildly astringent flavor. The juice of only the red fleshy part can be too sweet. Mixing it with the rind mellows down the sweetness and gives it a mild, bitter-sweet flavor. As for me, the more astringent and mild the sweetness, the better! 🙂
Watermelon Juice with Rind
Nutritional Benefits: Most of us throw away watermelon rind. Why? Simply because nobody told us that it was good and we have seen others throw it away, so we do it too. But watermelon rind is safe and healthy to eat. This recipe for watermelon juice with rind, ginger, and lemon is a healthy immunity booster. Watermelon is a rich source of citrulline, an amino acid that can metabolize arginine, an essential amino acid that our body does not naturally produce. Arginine is a nitrogenous substrate for synthesizing nitric oxide, which plays a vital role in cardiovascular and immune functions.
- 1/4 of a medium-size watermelon
- 1 whole lemon with skin, cut into small pieces
- 1/2 inch piece of ginger, peeled
Using a Masticating Juicer (Slow Juicer)
Cut watermelon, ginger, and lemon into small chunks. Put them through the juicer one by one and extract the juice.
Using a Centrifugal Juicer (liquefier)
Put all ingredients into the juicer and blender till smooth. Place a cheesecloth over a large pitcher. Pour the blended liquid through a cheesecloth and squeeze to extract every last drop of juice.
Transfer the juice to a serving glass and serve.
If required, refrigerate and store the juice for upto 3 to 4 days.
